This interview with Olivia Padilla took place on April 22, 2014 in Buffalo, NY and was conducted by Stephanie Bucalo and Casimiro Rodriguez. Olivia Padilla was born in Lackawanna to Spanish parents who migrated to the region after passing through Cuba before the Cuban Revolution. Olivia grew up in Lackawanna where she easily integrated into an English speaking environment. Her parents owned a poultry shop that sold fresh chicken to the community. When she was a child, she delivered the orders to their clients on her bike. Olivia discusses her family’s involvement in the Spanish and Mexican Clubs. She also describes different community events such as soccer. She also discusses the cultural differences between the Spanish and Puerto Ricans. Employment at Bethlehem Steel is a major point of conversation especially with respect to the women who worked there during World War II while the men were fighting abroad.

Olivia Padilla nació en Lackawanna, NY a una familia española quien migró a la región después de atravesar por Cuba antes de la Revolución Cubana. Olivia se crecía en Lackawanna y se asimiló fácilmente al ambiente solo anglosajón. Sus padres fueron dueños de una tienda de pollo que vendió pollo fresco a la comunidad. Cuando ella era niña, ella entregó las pedidas a sus clientes en bicicleta. Olivia habla el involucramiento de su familia en los clubes mexicano y español. Ella también describe los eventos distintos tanto como el fútbol. Ella también explica las diferencias entre los españoles y los puertorriqueños.
