The Velazquez family always maintained their cultural roots and made sure to pass that value on to their children because they are very proud of where they came from. Ana and her daughter discuss some of the challenges they faced growing up while seeking education, employment and respect in the community. They attended an English-only school and quickly assimilated into an English speaking environment. The family was actively involved in the Mexican Social Club and attended many events there.
